"New music: Dialogue of Civilizations". Conducted and narrated by Valentin Uryupin

Subscription “New Music. Dialogue of Civilizations” presents masterpieces of Russian and foreign, Eastern and Western musical cultures. On December 10, Valentin Uryupin, one of the most prominent conductors of the young generation, will tell the audience about the acoustic worlds of the 20th century.

Under his direction, the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform two scores. The concert will open with the  most significant work by Bernd Alois Zimmermann — a concert for two pianos and orchestra called "Dialogues" (1960).  Along with jazz motifs, it contains quotations from Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21, Debussy's “Games” and other works.  The soloists are the star duet of pianists — Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich.

The audience will also hear the First Symphony by Alexander Lokshin, a composer whose major works can be compared with the masterpieces of Mahler and Berg.  His most notable works include eleven symphonies based on poetic texts, with the exception of the only instrumental one.  At the opening concert of the subscription “New Music.  Dialogue of Civilizations” the RNYSO will perform Lokshin's First Symphony ("Requiem").
