Concert with Alexander Lazarev

Though many masters of the older generation performed with RNYSO, the collaboration with Alexander Lazarev can be called especially happy. From the very first concert, a mutual understanding arose between the conductor and the orchestra, which becomes stronger with each performance. The first concerts took place in 2019: works by Brahms and Respighi were performed on two stages of the Moscow Philharmonic. Two years later, the maestro dedicated the program to two titans of Russian music of the 20th century — Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Last season, the orchestra performed under his direction the works of Khachaturian and Terterian, an important step for the orchestra in mastering a new musical language, a new sense of time and the original dramaturgy of a symphonic work.

Now Lazarev again turns to Shostakovich, whose work occupies a central place in his repertoire: the maestro performed all of his symphonies with the Royal National Orchestra of Scotland, was the conductor-producer of the opera Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, and recorded many of his works. With RNYSO, he will present Symphony No. 10; its second part was a constant — and invariably successful — number of the orchestra's concert programs in the first year of its existence. The program also includes the Violin Concerto of Sibelius, interpreted by Pavel Milyukov, one of the brightest violinists of his generation.
