Rachmaninov Days at the Philharmonia-2
On April 5, the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert as part of the Rachmaninov Days, an annual mini-festival of the Moscow Philharmonic, which is dedicated to the great composer and is traditionally held in the hall that bears his name. The program will open with Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto: Denis Matsuev will perform the solo part in it. There are also the symphonic fantasy "Cliff" based on a poem by Lermontov, which Rachmaninov dedicated to Rimsky-Korsakov, and "Symphonic Dances" — a grandiose orchestral suite, which became the last Rachmaninov's piece. The concert will be conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky, one of the most famous Russian conductors of the younger generation.
